Professor Colin Renfrew: "Combating the Illicit Antiquities Trade: A Time for Clarity"
Following the 2009 SAFE Beacon Award Lecture & Reception in Philadelphia, Professor Lord Colin Renfrew gave a lecture in New York City on January 15, urging museums and individuals to contribute to putting an end to the illicit antiquities trade.
Donny George on the Iraq Museum, Worcester, MA
On April 18, 2009 the former Director of the Iraq Museum, Dr. Donny George, spoke to hundreds of students and faculty at the Bancroft School in Worcester, Massachusetts. Later that evening, Dr. George gave another lecture at the Trinity Lutheran Church, followed by a reception at the Worcester Art Museum.
HOMEWARD BOUND: Returning Displaced Books and Manuscripts
SAFE's second book history symposium took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on April 6, 2008. The panel addressed the issue of book and manuscript ownership and consisted of experts in the field of law and book specialists.
Preservation Imperative
A series of lectures designed to promote awareness of current issues in cultural resource preservation was presented in partnership with Bayside Historical Society as part of the Society's 2007 "Weekends in the Park" program. Lectures were given by archaeologists and members from the legal and law enforcement.
Howe Library discussion: "The Medici Conspiracy"
A discussion of the issue of preserving ancient sites and the antiquities they contain as discussed in the book The Medici Conspiracy: The Illicit Journey of Looted Antiquities From Italy’s Tomb Raiders to the World’s Greatest Museums.
"The Medici Conspiracy" with Peter Watson
Peter Watson’s first US lecture on “The Medici Conspiracy” was part of SAFE 2006 Beacon Awards Benefit Gala where Mr. Watson was honored along with his co-author Cecilia Todeschini, Matthew Bogdanos and Roger Atwood.
Exploring the NETWORK: Perspectives from the field
In 2007, the College of Charleston and SAFE co-hosted an in-depth panel discussion with local specialists from the areas of Mesoamerican, North American, and Mediterranean archaeology and addressed how the black market trade of antiquities and illicit excavation tactics affect archaeological practices.
"Thieves of Baghdad" with Matthew Bogdanos
Matthew Bogdanos, 2005 SAFE Beacon Award Winner and author of Thieves of Baghdad, lectured and signed books at SAFE events from San Francisco to New York.
DECLARED LOST: Recovering Stolen Books
A panel of lawyers, scholars, librarians, and bookdealers addressed the issue of book thefts and other questions in this symposium scheduled to coincide with the 2005 Boston Antiquarian Book Fair.
Looting the Baghdad Museum
Professor Elizabeth Simpson discussed the state of Iraqi archaeological sites and the trade in stolen antiquities at a lecture SAFE co-sponsored with the New York Council for the Humanities. The event took place at the Rye Free Reading Room on October 16, 2005 in Westchester, New York.

SAFE and Out Professionals presented Roger Atwood in conversation with Brendan Lemon in New York City on September 29, 2005, in New York City.
Preserving our Past: Looting and the Black Market in Art, Artifacts, and Antiquities
Held in Washington D.C. in April, 2005, the discussion featured a panel of experts in the cultural heritage field. The event was co-sponsored by The Lawyers’ Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation (LCCHP).

2005 AIA Boston Meeting
